Moondance-May 7th, 2006

Buc spent the weekend up north with his family and I spent it here not riding. For reasons unknown TRP was without power the whole week, but is back in business today. The Charlotte BBQ is this Sauturday and so far there's been a pretty good response. Please do let us know in person or otherwise if you are planning to come so nobody has to go hungry. Gas is expensive as shit so get as many people in each car as you can. Weather looks to be ok that day, but check the site before you leave to make sure everything is going as scheduled. Hopefully no monster tornado blows through Michigan on the day of our barbeque.

Another friendly reminder in case you forgot any of the details. Check back throughout the week for any updates.

This is at a lake near BUC's house up north, when you live in Detroit under a cloud of crap you can forget that stars still actually exist.

On the way back, BUC swung by charlotte for a quick session, of which I am jealous. The focus shifted from stars to a Moon.

That is Dave Moon, of course. It's hard to narrow down what photos to put up here because they're all do damn good.

He did the barspin ice pic once and BUC missed it, do he did again but this time to fakie.

Ridiculous huge pocket air.

Locals and some of nicest people you'll ever meet are psyched for the BBQ.

BUC tried to find out this kids name but it didn't work.

Back at home there were some street sessions in Wayne involving...

John Reed...

and Stewy, this is actually at those trails from one of the previous updates. BUC and some others are trying to get them up and running again.

Don't forget to let us know if you are coming out on saturday. If anyone needs a ride, we've got a couple spots open between BUC and I.

Not Hot in Charlotte, But Still Awesome-May 17th, 2007

The responsibilities of adulthood can be a pain in the ass and have postponed this update, but for good reason. Buc and I are working on a somewhat important announcement, but don't hold your breath or anything else. Thanks to everyone who came out to the BBQ on what turned out to be a pretty cold windy day. Good thing the sky was blue to make up for the chill. It was an awesome time, for bikers anyway, skateboarders were pissed. The charlotte park was way passed its capacity and almost everyone there was on two wheels. Turnout was better than expected. Most of the day and night was spent laughing which was exactly what we were hoping for. We will definitely put together another one in the very near future.

This was inevitable.

Some fine riding did take place. Blue skies, good friends, bmx, and food, what else is there?

The park was overloaded with bikes, some skateboarders were moaning and pissing, but it all worked out. Patience is a virture and we all learned long ago to wait our turn. Well most of us did anyway.

Cory is another rad Charlotte local. He carves everything super fast and goes balls out at some of the less conspicuous lines.

Kyle and the LC crew made the journey.

Carmichael pulled the hang five around almost the entire bowl, quite a feat.

I don't remember buc ever not being behind the camera, but the evidence shows otherwise.

I think Brian Schneck once won a tightest pants contest. It should have been highest air while wearing the tightest pants, he would have one that one too.

Malcom and his crew made it out as well and I know he's gonna want this photo for his personal records.

It wouldn't be a jam without Craig.

Stew managed to pull this opposite tail tap to fakie in and avoid the skateborder.

As it got darker, things got a little more loose. Everyone was fed, watered, just having fun. When people weren't playing bmx hippie frisbie in the bowls, they were jumping racers.

Everything out of Chris John's mouth is comedy. We're gonna hire him for the entertainment at the next one. Well, no we're not because he does it for free now.

This is another Chris, but from K-Zoo, with the rare can-can foot jam.

Once they killed the lights at the park. We went over to Alex's house for some bonfire action. For all those pyros who didn't get enough after setting the grill on fire.

Alex is awesome for letting us all take over his property, hunt horses under the vail of night, set the trees on fire, and crash if unable to get home.

Justin (Snowbal Knevil) Larson preformed this stunt about 10 times for our viewing pleasure, and he only spilled the beer once.

John Reed served people snacks out of his sombrero.

Stewy and Justin were the keepers of the flames.

Some people had a little Captain in 'em.

And so the sun set on the first ever Veteran BBQ, but it is certainly not to be the last. The whole reason buc and I started this site was for things like this. I know that we've had jams and contests before, but stuff like this is really our style. Everyone just hanging around, laughing, and telling stories. The community around bmx is great and every chance that we all have to get together and have some laughs should be embraced. It reminds me how much the people who don't ride are missing out. I think that it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy riding a bike. Even though we're all different, there is that one little thing we have in common. We're the people who don't sweat the small stuff and get the biggest kick out of the little things in life. At the end of the day, we had a better time than the next guy and we've all get bmx to thank. I know it sounds cheesy, but the world would probably be a much better place if bikers ran everything. It's about time for a pierced, tatooed president to pedal up on bmx-one and get things in order. At the very least bikes would be allowed into every park. That's something to think about in between sessions.

Much Tanks to everyone that came out and supported us, till the next time

Be sure to come out to the Etnies premier this Friday. Another awesome event put together by Scott Towne. Our sessions at Modern are limited, so make everyone count. Scott, his wife Gail, and his oldest son Noah welcomed a new addition to their family this past week, baby boy Dylan Luke. When your at the premier besure to congatulate the Dad times two.

Etnies Premier-May 24th, 2007

Just a simple little recap of one of the last sessions at Modern. Scott Towne was the coordinator of another awesome event. He premiered a Deliverance short right before Etnies latest production. Both were ridiculously good. The Deliverance offering covered a nice mellow trip taken by Scott, Hatfield and Closser. You really got the feel of being on the trip even though it was short, so job well done. The Etnies video, "Grounded" included some carnage from Joe Rich, funky gaps to walls from Runben, a completely insane part from Aaron Ross right at the beginning and a buch of other really good stuff from team Etnies. Sergio Layos is the god of smoothness. The whole video was great, but those were the standouts, for me anyways.

I'm sure we just caught Scott at a really bad time, he wasn't really giving the finger. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

B Dosh was so inspired by the movies that he had to run off to a dark corner and get in some bunnyhop tailwhips.

Everybody in the pool!

Here's what happened in one of the last remaining sessions at Modern after the premiers. May 27th will be the last day for the park at its current location with this setup.

People couldn't get enough runs at the hips.

Dosh overclick.

Craig boosting the hip.

Part of the masses.

Cory taking almost all of it all.

Stewy getting a little time on the big hip.

JG follows suit.

The master at work.

Joe has got lookbacks dialed.

John Reed's pictures always come out the best.

Be sure to come out this Sunday and bid farewell to Modern.

Modern's End (Sort Of)-May30th, 2007

This past Sunday was the very last session at Modern. We were worried that it would be packed and difficult to get a run in. Luckily, and thanks to Baco, it was one of those mellow modern sessions, which is really the best way to ride the park. I remmeber when I first walked into that place, back when it was Van's. We'll just say that the first impression did not go so well. It felt more like an amusement park than a skatepark. But when it's the middle of winter and there's not much to ride you work with what you got. Eventually the place grew on me and I owe much of what I've learned (though it's really not that much at all) to that park. With all the room to pedal and a smooth quater in every direction. It was a good place to learn new shit and for that I appreciate that park. It shouldn't be too long before Modern is reincarnated but good bye for now. Here is what went down at the last session.

Till we meet again!

Jason is truly a Modern local. Here, he and his kids demonstrate how family time really should be.

Stewy was never really crazy about Modern, but he rode it like he loved it.

We met John Reed at Modern and we are happy that we did. He traded in his sombrerro for a helmet in this update.

Jeff Tabb is another that we met through Modern and it's a good thing because he is one funny fucker.

In other news, buc was over at Jarvi's house celebrating his gaduation and came across this collage of the good old days. That's buc there doing the bow-legged x-up. Can you guess who that is on the bottom with the fine facial hair do?

It's Larson, you couldn't tell because he was in that disguise.

On the last day of Modern there were some firsts. Kevin eyeing up the gap.

He got it done first time and then perfected it. We pulled the net out of the way as much as we could but he still grazed it.

That wasn't enough though, not for Kevin. He's a beast and went after every ridiculous gap he could find. This is from the mini to the pool that bikers can only ride when the park is gonna close down. I'm still bitter about that.

Suchan, going for the glory on one of the last runs at modern. He fittingly got a flat right after this.

So long Modern of Novi! Hello Modern of Wixom or Farmington or wherever the hell it winds up.

This Saturday, June 2nd there will be a little shin dig at Danger Dave's house. He's got his ramps running and of course there's that trampoline bike. Whoever does the craziest shit on the trampoline bike will be awarded a couple veteran shirts. It's happening rain or shine and should be fun. His house is in Shelby Township on 23 Mile just east of Ryan. It all starts at 5pm. Check back for updates!
