september 2006
On and Off-September 6, 2006 I think this was the longest that I have gone without updating this site. It's pretty much been the last few days of summer so I spent as much time as possible outside, as you should have been doing too.
At some point last week, we went out to wolverine. It's a spot by buc's house. It's pretty much where i learned to ride and it's one of my favorites. If you haven't been there, you should go.
Buc making fun of me trying to learn tucks. It was good motivation though, because i did a decent one after 127 tries. This is farewell to my orange bike, soon it will not be orange anymore. We had some good times together. Buc changes the color of his bike like every week. I do about once a year and for some reason it's always emotional. On Friday, we were off to Charlotte.
We loaded up the truck. The we met up with Jeff Tabb, John Reed, Kenny Igosofast, and Will Moses at Modern.
Then we got caught in traffic for no apparent reason. We were there for about an hour. Will Moses found some shoes on the side of the rode, ran out got them and gave them to Jeff Tabb as a present. Jeff put them on his feet and wore them for the rest of the ride. Traffic's a bitch. Finally we got to the park where Brian and Alex were waiting for us. Jeff got this double peg on the second try. On the first try he wound up at the bottom of the bowl. Buc with a table in the deep end.
This is one of John Reed's last adventures here in Michigan before moving back to Colorado.
Will Moses gettin all his tricks back after a torn something or other in his knee. After we rode for a while and finally fed Kenny, and just chilled until they shut the lights off. Most of the time we spent messing with the camera.
Who killed Kenny? After we wrapped everything up, Buc went on his way up north for Labor Day and we all headed home. Whenever buc goes up north he becomes the nature man, here are the results.
Apparently rest stops are photo ops . This is at a rest stop on his way to Gaylord. Where's Bab? Hint: There are three of him. Now for a few moments of serenity.
Hope you enjoyed the calming effects of nature. Now get up and away from the computer and go enjoy what's left of the summer. Oh wait, before you get off the computer. Buc and I have surrendered to the trends. No, we don't have a veteran myspace, but we do have a profile on vital bmx. On myspace people would probably assume buc was a predatorr. On vital, i think we are safe. Go be our virtual friends.
Back on a Bike-September 11th, 2006 For a good part of last week I wasn't feeling well, so if you saw buc at the park without me, that's why. It didn't help the cause, that they're digging a new water mane on my street and assorted tractors were shaking my house at 7 in the morning. If you ever want to get sick, don't do it during major construction. You're probably wondering why this is relevant. I hate not to be able to ride, when you can't ride, it makes it so you want to ride more. The only good thing about not riding for a few days is that is feels fantastic when you do get to ride again. I guess it was a little weird too, that buc would be out riding and I knew exactly what I was missing. I feel better now and the construction has moved far enough down the road to where I can sleep through it. It's good to have things back to normal, even though I only missed 5 days of riding, it was five too many. It's good to be back on a bike. Here are some of the happenings that I missed. Buc went out to TRP on Wedneday. Tandem bmx is the next big thing. Get your buddy now and start training. On Friday, Buc went to Concrete Jungle and again I missed it. As a side note, that park will now allow bikes in every Friday between 5pm and 9pm. Shawn with a turndown. Stewy with a 180 over a gift from the Westland road construction crews, I bet they don't wake people up early in the morning. I'm starting to think that John Reed made up that whole thing about moving back to Colorado. Stewy got the camera for a little so buc could get a moment in the sun.
Stewy finishing off the evening. On Saturday, I still wasn't riding so I figureed I would do something close to riding. We painted my bike.
I didn't want to let it go, then I realized it was for the better. I actually hated having an orange bike. I went to albes one day and I was getting a frame no matter what. I wanted a Fly and the only one they had in the right size was orange. I bought it and made fun of it and Flipper called me pumpkin for weeks. For some reason, I was a little sad to see it go. By Sunday, I had had enough. I felt semi normal so I was riding for sure. Here's the debut of the new scheme, my half ass x up, and my blue socks. It's actually not that different than the old one, inspiried by Halloween. Chuck Stumpf was there and up to no good.
Timmy with what else, a barspin.
Stewy recently cut off all his hair and joined buc on Team Bald. Sunday was Dee's 23rd birthday. She was MIA for a little bit of the day but made it out to join the session. It was a good time and a Happy Birthday. Make sure you tell her when you see her. Scott can can candy bar. Govan almost killed buc and our camera after he fell on this crooked grind. He pulled it later in the session without the distraction of the photog. Spark's latest trick.
One more trick Stewy can do that you can't. Lastly, we're very happy to say that the first shirts are in. Almost any color you could want, except pink, sorry. So for anybody who's looked at the site or asked about merchandise, now we can finally have something to talk about.
Living in Circles -September 16th, 2006 Alot happened in this past week, and now that I'm trying to think of all of it, I can't remember what the hell happened or when. With help from the pictures, maybe I can get stuff in order. Here goes. Some where in the middle of the week we were up at TRP and here's what we have to show for it.
We're not sure what this little guy's name is, but he's a ripper. Going twice as high as you are tall gets you on this site. Bayliss with a downside smith in the bowl. I think Bayliss gets more use out of that bowl than anybody.
Kevin showing off the wingspan. Chris on the wall.
Chipper with a turndown. He also goes in the books as the first person to purchase a shirt. It was a proud moment. Next day we went to modern.
This is Mike, who we usually see at the warehouse, with a trundown at a variety of angles.
We can't have an update without Jeff Tabb. He's got more talents than you can count. Bmx, skateboarding, scootering, and now this. Dane is back in Michigan to stay. This was on Thursday, that night he went to Binghamton. Today is Saturday and he's already back. You can't hold up your hand and point to where you are anywhere wlse but here, that's why we all love it.
Even John can't leave. He's allegedly moving back to Colorado, but I think he loves the mit too much to leave. I wasn't kidding about bmx doubles. Dave Patterson, Scott Towne, and Dane had a trio going at one point, but we need a new lens to get all that action. Yesterday, we all met up at Concrete Jungle again, now that they're letting bikes in, it'll probably be the routine until it snows. The park was full of dust and sand from the rain over the last few days. A bunch of kids got brooms and helped to clean it out, none as stylishly as Stewy though. Brian and Doug came out from Charlotte to see what other cement parks are like. They had some shitty news though. Someone poured paint and motor oil in the bowls at Charlotte. I have no idea what would be the motive to do such a thing, but whoever it was deserves a beat down. Maybe we'll arrange a Charlotte surveillance camping trip to catch the culprit. Craig and a barspin over a cone. Jack of A-team fame clearing a hazard. This is the only decent picture we got of Stewy. We finished off the night by going over to TRP. Maybe that's why the week blended all together in my head. It ended the same way it started. Oh well, it was all a good time. Jaime looking pretty calm in the middle of a no foot can can. Stewy will ride for food. We're riding street in Ann Arbor tonight, come out, find us, and say hello. Thanks to anyone and everyone who bought a shirt or even thought about buying a shirt, it is much appreciated.
Inspired By...-September 22, 2006 I figure that we'll explain a little bit about how we come up with the ideas that we've had so far. Since this site about a couple things that are getting old, like buc and I, we decided that any graphics we come up with have something to do with the past. I always wish that I had lived in a different time, or that i could at least try it out for a little while. Things that are old always seem more interersting to me.
This is a picture that my younger sister took a few years back. I've had it hanging up since then, and it's where we got the idea for the stickers and eventually the shirts. The building is in Dearborn, which is where I live. I pass by it every day on the way to work. It feels the like the 50's. There was a little diner in the front that was always packed. I'm talking about it in the past tense because it recently closed down and will probably be demolished which bums me out. Sometimes new is not better. If a walgreens goes up there, I may go crazy. Things are starting to look the same every where and it's dissappointing. Just thought we'd give you a little insight into where we're coming from. Back to the bike now... A little group got together on Saturday I think and went out to Ann Arbor. The whole gang at one of our stops. Surprisingly, we were never confronted by the law, and we weren't even on our best behavior.
This is neat looking.
Dane went to work on a long manual to 180. He eventually got it.
When he wasn't manualing, Dave Patterson was doing this feeble.
Timmy cashed out early. Buc ate shit on a big gap by the clock tower, he hit is head on the ground and that finished off the night. Other than seeing stars, it was a good time. He was talking all kinds of shit about not riding the next day, but on Sunday it was business as usual at Modern. Dave and Dane were practicing their doubles routine when things got wierd. Dave was doing an alley oop double peg. You can see in the photo that his front peg missed, the bike went out from under him and we wound up with his feet over his head and griding the ledge on his shoulder. He pretty much slid down the whole thing upside down and then somersaulted flipped off. It was bizarre. The next couple days, we just hung out at TRP.
Bayliss approves the apparel.
Danger Dave has conquered the tailwhip and is stoked.
I haven't seen Chris Bayliss on skates in quite some time. I asked why he doesn't do the ice pic out of the quater, the answer is because he already did it. If papa Ricky's bike was in the woods, you wouldn't see it.
In keeping with the odd falls, Mike got squirrely during this 360 and ate shit. He was tumbling down the ramp and somehow turned it into some stylish breakdancing.
Scott is fun to photograph.
Rhese was there doing contest runs for kicks. Cory clickin his heels better than Dorothy.
Stewy riding his own rollercoaster.
This is too funny not to put up.
Either w e didn't realize how tiny bikers were or how tight they like to wear their shirts, so we ran out of smalls and mediums in a hurry. Not to worry though, Buc and I set up a two man sweat shop in my living room and cranked out some home made goods. They're not perfect, but I really like the way they turned out. It was no easy task and took about three days to finish everything. If you buy one, think of us surrounded by shirts and not trying to get paint on the furniture.
It's Been Too Long-September 27th, 2006 It felt like a really long time since I updated last, but I guess five days is really not that bad. There's a long to do list for this site that grows as we speak and it seems that every time we're about to catch up, something goes wrong. Today is a good example, I came home from work hoping to take care of this update. As it turns out, I walk into the house and find my whole family wading through about a foot of water in the basement. A few posts back I mentioned how a construction crew installing a new water mane wakes me up in the morning. Now they're also responsible for emptying a new fire hydrant into my basement and therefore postponing this update. It's all good though, the guy who came out to fix it was pretty funny. When life give you lemmons, make lemonade and sip it while floating in the pool that is your basement. Here's the last week for your amusement. On friday the crew from Season bikes came up to TRP from ohio. It's always good to see some new faces.
Part of the crew that came up.
This fellow's name is Jeff, we're not sure what the last name is, huge 180's over the little spine.
Bud Dickman was also there, he runs Perspectives bmx. There are more photos of their session at TRP as well as a jam at Nate Powell's ramps from Sunday.
Here is Nate giving Biker Ben a different perspective on a 360 whip. On Saturday, we were supposed to go out to the Albe's demo at River Bends. I was totally expecting it to rain and the whole thing to get called of. Of course, when you expect something to happen it doesn't. By the time we were all ready to go, it was over. We did manage to get over to Danger Dave's house and ride his ramps. We got away with it for about 40 minutes, then it rained.
It's a pretty good set up. There's a box jump, mini with a sub wall type thing, a spine, and a real tight quater. Joe stylin over the box. Timmy with an invert.
This is one of many tricks that loaf pulled on the sub wall. It started to pour, so we went to get some dinner. There were 14 of us at the restaurant, so we provided the entertainement. Some people just saw us coming, dropped their food and ran. Overall we were pretty well behaved.
It's the great pumpkin charlie brown (redford steve).
We finished out the evening by hanging out at Loaf's.
When we got to Dave's house, Craig was there and he had hair. Two hours later, Craig showed up without hair. It was a good Saturday and thanks to Dave and Loaf for letting us all take over their homes. On Sunday, it was raining and shitty and we were tired so TRP as usual.
It's always good when we pull up there and see Rich and Chuck. You get to see two guys at two totally different places in their riding but having the best time together.
Here are a couple photos of chuck that Rich sent in. Top one is Louisville obviously, and the second is Chuck jumping a 24 ft. double. The Loaf show continued that night with a monster no foot can can.
Stewy had to clear it with air traffic control before he brought this one in for a landing. Anyone who has contacted us for some pictures, don't worry, they're coming. We just have to catch up a bit. There are a few new additions coming for this site and we're working on some new stickers. Hopefully, the next update will come easier than this one.
