november 2006
V-Day-November 6th, 2006 Lately, we've been doing alot at TRP. We're not trying to play out the place, but it's good for business and we need to keep that place there because winter's are too long in this state. So we were looking around November and realized that Veteran's Day is this Saturday and couldn't pass it up. It's an after hours session so it'll be bikes only. Ten bucks to get in and compete. They'll be a highest bunny hop contest, longest skid, and best trick over the new hip. All in the name of a good time and not killing yourself. There'll be prizes for each group from us, Team Young, Deliverance, and Albes. It's all about everything local this weekend.
Here's the last week or so at TRP...Enjoy! The main event, for us at least, was Ron and Vinnie's going away party as they are about to grace the great state of PA with their residency. There were about a hundred other things giong on this past weekeend as well. Check Albe's for the trip out to Rays and Team Young for Lucero. Here's the going away party.
Stewy and Craig settling on the spine. Rheese was the first to get this view of the new hip. Scooters are blowin up...even the cool kids do it now. Davey Coop. Sparks working on another flare variation. He took it hard a bunch which seems like a big deal to everybody but Sparks. The newest addition held up well and should get worked again this weekend. Squirrel owns inverts. We didn't want the box jump getting jealous, so Joe gave it special attention. It was rare for Boomer to have his hands actually on the bars Kris K downside tooth pic Somehow these are the only two photos we had of Ron Thomas and we got none of Vinnie. We suck. Check BMX.CC for more.
This is Ron's going away present for us all. Notice the cargo. Other random happeneings at TRP.
Kyle workin on the tailwhip. TRP faithful
Jay Morris making an appearence. This gent's name ia Aussie. He and his crew came out from Toronto to ride TRP. Bill, Mike, and Joel respectively, came out from the Lapeer area. Which remids me that we haven't been out to the Warehouse lately.
November 10th there will be a fundraiser rent out for Dave Fowley, owner of Imperial Bike Shop in Saline, who passed away this past friday. Anything you can spare will go to his family. November 11th is the Veteran's Day jam. Both are 11pm-2am and for a good cause so be sure to come. Super BMX Do Gooders-November 12th, 2006 As you all know this past Friday was the benefit for Dave Fowley from Imperial Bike Shop in Saline. Here's a little overview if you missed it.
The turnout was great and I think Dave's family really got an idea of what bmx is about. We are pretty good people despite what many may think. A whole bunch of money was raided between admissions and an auction. Thomas played a big part in getting everything together, along with Scott Towne and Sean Rakos. I couldn't exactly tell who this guy was in this get up. When I realized it was Scott I figured who else could it be.
Todd is from Saline and reppin Imperial Bike Shop with the fakie.
Otto was real close to Dave so it was good to see him laughing and having a good time on his bike. Otto works at Town 'n' Country in Livonia. Whenever you need anything for your bike, he's your guy in addition to being a badass. Solan came out with all his style as usual.
Don't trust the smile, this kid is up to no good. Sparks gettin the double whip done for the crowd. Look at that shiner, I didn't know Sparks actually brusied, given how hard he hits the ground and how fast he gets up. Then it was flare to the wall.
This here is Dave from New York and he's crazy.
He gapped from top of the quater to double peg the ledge. He tried it 6 or 7 times and came ridiculously close on a few, the rest were carnage. He was alright though and took it like it was nothing. One wreck looked like he had knocked out some teeth but all was well. We were out at Charlotte one day this past summer barbequing and Dave showed up and joined us. But he only ate cantaloupe and a veggie burger. See kids, you should eat your fruits and vegetables. Not really sure what's going on here. Saturday night was the Veteran's Day jam and it went pretty well. Thanks to everyone who came out and especially Team Young, Deliverance, and Albe's for helping out with the prizes. Of course thanks to Don and Melanie at TRP. Oh and thanks to the fellow who went so far as to make a shirt for the event. Didn't catch your name but you kick ass, send us an e-mail so we know who you are. We just wanted to make sure people had a good time, nothin real serious. Which brings us to the longest skid.
Things strated off pretty smooth and almost everyone got across the whole room. We had to increase the difficulty level a bit.
Here's Stewy lubing up the floor making sure things were exciting.
It actually did make things more interesting. In the end it came down to Flipper and Carmickle, so we had them do a longest skid foot-down death match. In the end, Flipper was the victor beause he didn't put his foot down and because he's got more skid variations than thought possible. Once we got the floored dried up, we had the highest bunny hop contest. Everyone loves highest bunny hop.
It was fun to watch and alot of people were delightfully surprised to see who could hop the highest. Marty got pretty far into the constest. In the end it came down to Brandon Dosch,
And Marcelis, or Chocolate Thunder and Steve Blake MC called him.
Marcelis took the title with a 41 inch jump. For his stunting he received assorted bmx goods, and a basket of carrots provided by Steve Blake and the Dearborn Farm Market. Bunnies ain't got shit on Marcelis, I mean Chocolate Thunder. At the beginning of the contest he was probably going even higher than 41. Maybe we sholuld have started at the top. After the contest Dane had a little fun and pulled this frog hoppie thingie. We should have had a prize for him of whatever frogs eat. Flies I guess. Various other trickery happened throughout the night.
Little Chuck going big. Fowlerville Pat stylin over the box. When Pat is telling a story, listen. It will be hilarious.
Kris K doin what he does best. Smalls testing out the sub wall.
Dosch lookin back at ya.
And a tailwhip over the box.
Again, not really sure what's going on here. By the time we had the best trick over the hip, I think most people were pretty tired out. That hip is quickly getting a reputation of taking people out. Jaime Chalmers was attempting a 180 on it and took it pretty bad. It makes you feel kind of shitty when you're having a contest and somedoby gets hurt. You kind of feel responsible. Jaime was a ok though.
After Loaf got comfotable with this he went after the downside whip.
Rheese with the patented backflip over the hip while being blinded.
Carmickle was the winner with the Superman Seat Grab over the big hip. Apparently our camera and camera man were also tired at this point resulting in the less than stellar photo quality. I figured I would finish off with something unusual.
At some point during the week, not sure when, Stewy was playing with fire.
This is the result. Terry probably had no idea he was on fire until now. Thanks again to all the pople who came out this weekend and supported all things local. Our camera goes in for a little repair work so our updates may be MIA for a bit, or just have much shittier phots. New long sleeve shirt in about a week and new stickers in two.
While You Were Away-November 21st, 2006 Many of you probably spent this past weekend in Columbus witnessing all kinds of bmx trickery. Giant front flips to flat, Spark's enormous flares, Mike Spinner spinning. The rest of us that were not so fortunate spent the weekend riding in unusually unbusy skateparks, although Modern was pretty packed on Sunday. This past weekend also marks an official 4 years for buc and I. We haven't killed each other yet so you should congratulate us when you see us. Here's the past weekend in the mit. For the happenings at the Flow check Team Young where there are some fantastic photos by Kris K. I have too much shit to do so words are scarce, you should be happy there's an update at all, so enjoy the photos. Brian Shneck at TRP of these past days.
Nate Powell with the tailwhip.
And the foot jam.
Biker Ben made the trek from Toledo.
Terry settin the table.
Carmickle. Stewy coming out of the dark.
The hip is getting used. Here's Kyle. i Dillon.
Bayliss approves. On Sunday, there was a pretty good session at modern. Beatrice Trang, proprietor of magnoliabmx, came out with here crew from Hamilton, Ontario to tour the local attractions. Jeff here is one of the fellows that came out. He had some cool foot jam combo moves that were interesting.
Garvoc. Sassy. Kevin getting no love from Hatfield.
Kevin with the bird's eye veiw of Modern.
Anthony, fakie wall slap.
Corey tailwhip over the hip. On Monday, we were back at TRP and everyone else was back from Ohio, including this guy...
Mike Spinner has the smoothest 720's, including this one with a turndown thrown in. I believe he got second at the contest.
Sparks was also in attendance fresh off his best trick win.
Jaime toboggan. Don't mess with Kris K or his psycho rodent. On that note, everyone have a good Thanksgiving! Rodent's segue nicely to turkey. Funny Story-November 28th, 2006 So buc spent thanksgiving up north with his family and I stayed put. He left me with the camera so that i might learn how to use it. All I really did was take pictures of my family eating way to many carbs over a two day period. Anyway, so the funny story is, the day before buc left for up north we were riding TRP. He was doing a tire grab air and ate shit. He landed right on top of the bike and hurt a couple of his ribs. So it worked out that he would be up north and away from the bike so he could heal. Even if the ribs were broken there's not much that can be done besides sitting on your ass for a while. While he was gone, I figured i would learn something new, well actually i just wanted to combine a couple things i could already do. I learned one handers to x-up and was psyced to show him. So he get's back on Tuesday and I'm all ready to show him my new stunt. I do one pretty shitty. Then, I did one that went great, the best on I had done so far. Then I had to push it and do another one. That's when I ate shit. The one hander went ok but something malfunctioned during the x up. I landed on top of my bars and cased and all kinds of bad shit. When I could breath again, I realized that i broke a spoke on my front wheel, my toes hurt really bad, and my ribs were fucked. Not just any ribs though, the same exact ribs that buc busted the week before. I though it was pretty amusing that we had matching damage. It didn't hurt that bad while I was riding so I rode for a little more. I am paying for it now. So i guess there will be a little bmx break for the next couple days. Just figured I would share that little story of fate. You've noticed that there were no pictures for this post so if you've got any good picture send em in and I'll put them up. We're picking up the new shirts tomorrow just in time for your holiday shopping and we're taking way too long to order stickers, sorry!
New Goods-November 30th, 2006 New shirts are in and this time, variety is the word. I was bored and putting up decorations, this is the result.
This is what's on the 3/4 sleeves...
This is the long sleeve. Now you can be warm all winter, if it ever get's cold. $15 for either one...go ride modern tonight...and buy shirt too!
