june 2007 Basic-June 12th, 2007 Life has been pretty predictable lately not that it's a bad thing, but it has limited the bmx lately. All of this is about to change pretty quickly. The announcement that I mentioned a few posts ago, if you don't know already, is that BUC bought his very own house recently in Dearborn and should be moved in in about a week or so. After that is all sorted out riding will go back near the top of the list of priorities. We did manage to make it out to River Bends this past week for a mild little session. That place is super fun and I wish it was closer. The crew we found when we arrived. We called Dave on our way out and found out it was supposed to be closed. We went out there anyway to ride Dave's ramps. We did a litle drive by and alas it was open. Sorry Danger Zone. But Dave came out and brought the Danger with him.
Patrick is a River Bends local and a really nice guy. Not to mention that he has the place wired.
Kevin never disappoints. The ramp is somewhere way underneath him. BUC tried to get the ramp in the pic but Kev makes it impossible.
For lack of any other good photos, I figured I would throw this one in of me conquering the hip after about a million attempts and one bulldoze into the ledge on the other side of the landing. Black ramps in the dark are a bad idea. Luckily there should be plenty of bmx going on this weekend. Thanks to Thomas and his crew, the 2nd Annual BikeFest is going on in Ann Arbor this Friday. That super good box will be there, I'm stoked, Check here for details. I have to drive all the way to the St. Joseph's on the other side of Michigan for a bridal shower this Saturday. I'm gonna try and skip out early and find something to ride out there. I know there are some fine parks on the west side. If you know of anything good, tell me! -Hanan It just occured to me that we never sign off on these posts. You all have no idea who's writing them. Well now you do.
D-Dave's B-Day-June 6th 2007 This past Saturday represented Danger Dave's Transitions into legal alcoholic consumption. He and his family put together a little celebration at his house and bikers came from far and wide to aid in the festivities.
What's become known as the Danger Zone. It sucks that it rained. For some reason, every time we go out to Dave's it rains. One day we're gonna ride that place dry.
The moisture wasn't enough to keep people off the ramps. Loaf broke the ice and others followed. Steve Blake was on a mission and got a lot done in shitty conditions. This double peg is on a steep ass vert quater. Eric with the tweaked table to fakie.
Danger Dave has got this box dialed, even in the rain. He also owns the tramp bike.
Three muskateers. At some point Loaf turned into the Hulk.
Soaked ramps, dry ramps-Dane Wild is unphased.
Dude Stew with stinky sock for extra flavor.
Joe Gall rode that bike from Royal Oak to 23 Mile and Ryan, then he took it to places it had never been before. He made it look way too easy. He, the mountain bike, and that pair of flip flops jumped the box, abubacaed, and pulled some pedal stalls. I know everyone is dying to check out toilets.com! Much thanks to Dave and his family for having everybody out. It was an awesome time despite the rain. Next time there will be no rain. On the way back, me, buc, my bro Ali, Sooch, Govan, and Redford Steve stopped by Royal Oak to get a little street.
Props to Ali who actually got on the bike at pulled his first 180 gap.
Govan being his usual self. It was pretty mellow, the cops came around this spot after 40 minutes or so. We weren't sure if they were there for us or to give some poor bastard a parking ticket. Alot of shit went down at Baco. Check Albes and Team Young for photos, as well as Kris K's photo blog, 3ntropy, for some awesome candid shots from the trip.
Bucland-June 26th, 2007 It's been a while since the last update, but for good reason. Buc is now officially a homeowner and we spent the last week working non-stop to make the place hospitable. It has definately been interesting, much of getting older is pretty tough and involves giving up most of the fun shit you get to do when you're a kid. This is one part of getting old that's worth it. Yeah there are a bunch of bills to pay at the end of the month, but when you're in charge of your own chunk of the planet it's a pretty cool feeling.
Here he is with his humble abode. I did the flowers, he's not quite Susie Homemaker yet. Earlier in the week he was up north doing more manly things.
Like relaxing by the sunset.
And catching fish, although they let them all go. I don't understand it, it's fishing not releasing. Once he got back we went out for a little session at Sooch's. We found out that Buc's new neighbor is Suchan's old boss. Suchan took a little spill and had to get stiched up earlier in the week. Dane was there, and lead us in a little street session afterward.
He pulled the double peg to hop over. I am jealous of Dane's hopping ability. I spent the whole time trying to clear a tiny speed bump, just to put things in perspective. Finally, what many of you were waiting for, here's the sum up of BikeFest in Ann Arbor. Lots of you came out so you probably all know what happened. Here are the best photos. We all owe it to Thomas for making bmx part of the event. I think many of the spectators enjoyed us the most.
This woman was particularly smitten. She calls herself Damn-It Janet. She loves the bmx. Apparently she's writing a book and we're all gonna be in it. Craig gave the people what they wanted and was pretty famous by the end of it. Backflips, whips, family jumping. People thought they were playing a video game.
No pressure. Here are the rest of the photos, I'm tired and out of things to say.
After, we went out to ride a little street. We passed by this guy who seemed too talented to be there. He enjoyed the photo op and made a few bucks. He's probably richer than all of us.
Dane was on a mission.
It can be difficult to get things going with 20 or so people. We spent most of the time at the little two stair and manualing the long ledges.
Bayliss, out in the wild away from his native environment of TRP.
Veteran is about to be 1 year old and we're trying to put something together in its honor. Any suggestions? Road Fools Rock-n-Roll Tour is coming to Grand Rapids this Thursday. Check here for details. This list of riders is ridiculous. I don't think we can make it out, but we might try to get to the Flow on Friday. The link also contains info on how you can help Stephen Murray, who took a horrible fall attempting a double back flip on the Dew Tour dirt course. Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated. In honor of Buc's new house everyone is welcome to come by this weekend for some bbq action. Give him a call if you want to stop by as it's still in the works (734)635-6611. -Hanan
